Why Bother with Maintenance?

Owning an aquarium or pond comes with a responsibility most of us don’t want to consider, but it would be a tragic waste to design and install the perfect aquarium or water feature and then let it fall apart due to improper maintenance. The most common reasons maintenance falls by the wayside is simply time and understanding.

There is a misconception that most underwater ecosystems are self-maintaining. If a coral reef survives on its own in the ocean, it seems logical it would be fine in your tank. The problem is that a number of varying problems alter the ecosystem of a personal aquarium, and you can't simply rely on the fish to take care of themselves. Filters, plants, and a proper variety of fish will all go a long way towards keeping your water feature maintained, but you should still check regularly to ensure it stays healthy.

Filters can go bad, fish can become sick, and diseases can ravage plants. Any number of circumstances outside of your control can take a perfectly balanced ecosystem and throw it into chaos. That is why we recommend that you not only adhere to the best practices for maintaining healthy, enduring life for your product, but that you schedule regular maintenance checks.

Types of Maintenance

Living Art Aquatic Design, Inc. is able to provide our customers with a maintenance plan that best suits their schedule as well as the aquarium, pond, or water feature that they have. We do still recommend that owners frequently check on their tanks or pond to ensure that the water has not developed a strange color or issue, that fish appear to be vibrant and healthy, and that uneaten food is not contaminating the tank. The more complex your setup, the more rigorous you need to be in maintaining it through personal or professional care.
